Plastic Injection Service

Injection molding is one molding method that combines injection and molding. The advantages of injection molding method are fast production speed, high efficiency, operation can be automated, variety of designs and colors, shapes can be from simple to complex, sizes can be from large to small, and the product size is accurate, the product is easy to update, and it can be made into complex shapes. Injection molding is suitable for mass production and molding processing fields such as products with complex shapes, high quantity and shorter delivery. Custom plastic injection for you.

Plastic Injection Process

Clamping

Before material injection begins, the two halves of the mold must be securely closed by the clamping unit. Each half is mounted onto the injection molding machine, with one half fixed and the other sliding into place. The hydraulic clamping unit applies enough force to keep the mold firmly shut during the injection process. The time required for this step depends on the machine size—larger machines with higher clamping force generally take longer. This duration can often be estimated based on the machine’s dry cycle time.

Injection

Plastic material, typically in the form of pellets, is fed into the injection molding machine and moved forward by the injection unit. As it advances, the material is melted by applied heat and pressure. Once molten, the plastic is injected rapidly into the closed mold. The pressure buildup helps pack the material tightly and hold its form. This amount of material is referred to as the “shot.” While the exact injection time varies due to the complex flow behavior of molten plastic, it can be estimated based on factors like shot volume, injection pressure, and machine capacity.

Cooling

Once inside the mold, the molten plastic begins to cool and solidify upon contact with the mold surfaces. As it cools, it conforms to the mold’s shape, forming the final part. However, shrinkage can occur during this phase. Proper packing pressure during injection helps minimize this shrinkage. The mold cannot be reopened until the cooling process is complete. Cooling time is typically determined by the material’s thermodynamic properties and the maximum wall thickness of the part.

Ejection

After sufficient cooling, the molded part is ejected using an ejection system connected to the rear half of the mold. When the mold opens, pins or plates push the part out. Since the part may adhere to the mold surface due to shrinkage, ejection often requires significant force. Mold release agents can be applied beforehand to assist with this process. Ejection time includes the time it takes to open the mold and allow the part to fall clear. This step is usually estimated based on the machine’s dry cycle time. Once ejected, the mold can be clamped again for the next cycle.
